FEA is an association of education employees who work for the Fairfax County Public Schools in Fairfax, Virginia
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
What FEA has accomplished for you
-
Increased your salary - For the first time in two years FCPS employees are receiving a salary increase, the sum of which will exceed other county employees. This would not have happened without a persistent push by FEA at every conceivable opportunity. Phone calls and meetings with important decision makers on your behalf never ceased, and will continue.
-
Protected programs - We successfully forced the veto of a bill that would have required an additional ninety minutes of physical education each week, jeopardizing art and music classes, as well as the jobs of many PE teachers because this bill would have lessened the requirements for teaching PE.
-
Saved jobs - This past year we stopped a reduction of contracts for School-Based Technology Specialists. FEA takes up the fight every time a reduction in work force is proposed.
-
Safeguarded your retirement - FEA worked with other community groups to successfully oppose two assaults on the Virginia Retirement System. Together we defeated one plan that would have reduced your benefits by 48%. We also shot down another bill that would have reduced your pay by 5% to fund VRS.
-
Represented you at critical meetings - FEA was present at every meeting of the FCPS School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors making sure issues important to you were exposed in public forums.
-
Improved working conditions - Through collective action we are making improvements to the working environments at two local elementary schools. We've continued the working conditions survey and visited well over 100 schools, learning precisely what issues are important to FCPS employees.
-
Professional development workshops - This year FEA hosted three professional development workshops. We will continue to find ways to augment your knowledge and meet your career goals.
